We’ve had our first meeting! We had five people show up to our first meeting. The book we discussed was Moloka'I by Alan Brennert. There were varying opinions but all in all we liked the book. We talked about one of the main characters role as a Kahuna and one of our members shared an experience she had with a Kahuna near the birthing stones.

We also talked about The Big Read in Hawaii program, featuring the book The Joy Luck Club. It is a program created to bring reading the masses. For more information go to http://www.hawaiicapitalculture.org/index.php?id=56

At the end of the meeting we picked our next book, A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. You can buy it on amazon.com for around $7 used. One of our members has attended a conference with Christopher Moore as a speakers. It will be interesting to learn more about the author from her experience after we have read the book.

We also decided Starbucks was an uncomfortable meeting place so we have moved our next meeting the Big City Diner next to Pearlridge on Pali Momi Street. The full address is 98-211 Pali Momi Street, Suite 900. We did decided to stick to Sunday mornings. So our next meeting will take place Sunday October 28th, 10am at the Big City Diner. Until then, happy reading!
